One World Week Tournament, January 23

In January we held the regular fixture in our calendar that is the One World Week tournament. Teams from the society turned out, as well as teams from the One World Week crew. And it was a great tournament, full of close games and comedy team names. In the end it was won by "THubbert" (Tom H and Nubbert) who beat "Fall In Colon & Wealthy Bog" (Colin and Rich) in the final. Top fresher was Dan Merzon, who came third as half of "Team Late featuring Merzoné" along with Tommy B. Results and discussion.

The Freshers' Tournament 2007

We gave away £200 in prize money to our new members in our biggest ever freshers' tournament. Congratulations to Chris Lyall and Andreas Macek who won the doubles event - Chris also won the singles. It was a great tournament, and look out for some of the entrants - they could be top players in the years to come! Full results.

The Woxford Open

Confirming our status as the top place in the country for Garlando foosball, Warwick held its second national tournament in just two months - the Woxford Open. As you might have guessed from the name, it was running in place of the usual Oxford Open, but it proved to be just as successful as its more southern counterpart. We filled the quota of 64 entrants with ease, and there were even extra people turning up on the day in the hope of getting in! Warwick foosers were also in amongst the top places come the end of the day: six of the top ten teams in Open Doubles had someone from Warwick in them, topped by Tommy B who came 3rd with Oli Deakin. Sun and Ken also brought home a trophy, coming 2nd in Semi-Pro Doubles and knocking Nubbert out along the way. Check the full results and look out for more Woxfords - we can't wait to hold another tournament of this size as soon as we can.

The Warwick Open 2007

The Warwick Open was an enormous success, with a spectacular array of events taking place over three days. Warwick players achieved high placings in all competitions. See the full results and photo gallery.

Warwick BFA Sanctioned Tour

A new event arrived at Warwick in February: the BFA Sanctioned Tour. Everyone was taking this series of doubles events seriously, as it counts towards players' national Garlando rankings, and is open to competitors from outside Warwick. And to Warwick they came: Chris Haddon and John Worthington from the Chetwynd, Charles Allen and Mike Webborn from Oxford, and Raf Jack from a place where the trains finish very early. Never mind that, the inaugural Tour event was very competitive: favourites Tommy B and Dan eventually beat Steve and James in the final, while Chris and John were the highest non-Warwickites in third place. All in all there was a good turnout, with a total of sixteen pairs competing, and we're looking forward to the next instalments of the Tour.

The BFA Sanctioned Tour returned to Warwick in March, bringing foosers another chance to play some non-Warwick opposition and boost their national rankings. Unsurprisingly, the competition was dominated by Warwick players, with Chris Haddon and John Worthington the only pair hardcore enough to travel to this event. Overall the competing field looked very similar to last time, and the results also turned out similarly: Tommy B and Dan had a scare when they lost in the winners' bracket to Steve and James, but they came back eventually to beat them in the final. Nubbert and Colin took third place while TH and Adam were fourth. Chaddon and John were rewarded pitifully for travelling all the way to Warwick; they shared fifth place with Joe and Harry. Full results of both events

The tour came to Warwick one last time in November, and Tom completed his hatrick by winning once again - this time, playing with Steve Lyall. Nubbert and Colin came second, but the undoubted stars of the tournament were Dan Tipton and Nik Doran, who despite being unfavoured novices, beat a load of semi-pros to come 3rd. Good work!

One World Week Tournament, Wednesday 24th January

Warwickfoos held a doubles tournament open to all comers as part of the university’s One World Week, and it was a successful affair: many of the society’'s regulars turned up, along with several players from the One World Week crew who fancied their chances against the pros of Warwickfoos. It was a fun affair -– until the semi finals, when Steve turned up the anger to stellar levels after going a set down to Nubbert and Way. It seems to have helped him though, and Steve and Dan went on to win the tournament, beating seasoned pro Luke who had foolishly chosen to play with novice Tom Burdett. Thanks to everyone who turned up, and also the One World Week team for giving us the opportunity to hold an event. Check the full results on the forum.

Past Tournaments

The society has always run internal tournaments throughout the year for students of the university. For the last two years we have also run a highly acclaimed national tournament, the Warwick Open, which brings in over a hundred players from all over the country (and even some from abroad) while still including events catered to our local player base. This year our tournament schedule, along with everything else we run, is getting a thorough overhaul. For now this page covers the typical events we have run in our time so far and will give a good idea of what to expect this year.

Internal Tournaments

The Freshers' Tournament

The large start-of-year tournament is always guaranteed fixture in our events calendar. Last year we ran two tournaments, one for all comers and another limited to freshers and other new members to the society. The exact format for this year is under intense discussion, but rest assured we will carefully consider the needs of every group of students (especially freshers), and make sure this tournament has something for everyone.

The One World Week Tournament

The society's spring term event was absent last year, but we're intent on bringing it back and are exploring all possible events and formats we could run, to make this an exciting and interesting event.

The End of Year Tournament

This event, though successful in it's own right, has given way to the much bigger and better Warwick Open for the last two years. The Warwick Open is on course to be established as an annual event, but we are not ruling out running an internal post-exam tournament in addition to it.

Christmas and Easter tournaments

Additional tournaments for this year are also under consideration. We're aiming to have a spectacular events schedule this year, while not over-saturating the calendar. Some sort of large events around the Christmas and Easter holidays are definitely on the table as a possibility at the moment.

National Tournaments

The Warwick Open

Our own national competition has in a mere two years become one of the biggest table football tournaments in the UK. This year's Warwick Open was a resounding success. With sixteen tables, over 130 competitors and a prize fund of over £2000, it was a spectacular event. After the standard set by the first Warwick Open the year before, expectations were high, but this year's Open has been even more highly praised by those who attended. In addition to running a successful tournament, the society also showed the strength of its player base, with strong results in all events, including all-Warwick finals in both Amateur Doubles and Semi-Pro doubles. For more information see the national events page and the extensive photo gallery.

Other national tournaments

We organise regular trips to other national and even international tournaments. Past destinations have included the well-established annual Oxford Open, the Cambridge Open, the UK Open in Reading, the European Open (held in the UK in 2005), the World Championships in Austria and the UK Masters in Northwich. For more information on trips to previous and upcoming tournaments, see the national events page.
